Remove and BrowserSafeguard.exe from your computer

This article will help you remove and BrowserSafeguard.exe browser hijacker from your computer.

This browser hijacker claims to add more security and protect you from dangerous content that anti-virus programs may not consider. Users commonly install free software downloaded from the internet for free that comes bundled with this browser hijacker.

The common symptoms when your computer is infected with BrowserSafeguard and Rockettab are the following:

  • Ads from the Adknowledge advertising network randomly appear
  • Random text on websites will be converted to sponsored links
  • Powered by Rockettab message keeps on showing up

To resolve this issue, follow any of the following:

  1. Uninstall newly installed programs from the Control Panel:
    1. Click the Start button then click Control Panel.
    2. Click Uninstall a program.
    3. On the list of programs, click the Installed On header until the list is arranged from latest to oldest.
    4. Check the list then uninstall any program that you do not recognize or rarely use.

  2. Reset your Internet Explorer to its default settings:
    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. Press ALT + T on your keyboard then click Internet Options.
    3. Click the Advanced tab then click Reset.
    4. Click Close to apply changes.

  3. Reset your Mozilla Firefox to its default settings:
    1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
    2. Type about:support on the address bar.
    3. Click Refresh Firefox.
    4. Click Refresh Firefox again.
    5. Click Finish to apply changes.

  4. Reset your Google Chrome to its default settings:
    1. Open Google Chrome.
    2. Type chrome://settings then click Show advanced settings….
    3. Scroll-down then click Reset settings.
    4. Click Reset to apply changes.

  5. Disable add-ons on Internet Explorer:
    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. Press ALT + T on your keyboard then click Manage add-ons.
    3. Check the list of Toolbars and Extensions then disable any add-on that you do not use.

  6. Disable add-ons on Mozilla Firefox:
    1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
    2. Type about:addons on the address bar then hit ENTER.
    3. Click Extensions.
    4. Disable any extensions that you are not using or rarely use.

  7. Disable extensions on Google Chrome:
    1. Open Google Chrome.
    2. Type chrome://extensions then hit ENTER.
    3. Untick the Enabled box to disable any extension that you do not use.
      NOTE: You can also click the trash bin to permanently remove the extension.

  8. Scan your computer using AdwCleaner:
    1. Download and install the latest version of AdwCleaner by following the instructions on this article: Adwcleaner – search and remove adware toolbars
    2. Click Scan. Wait for the scan to finish.
    3. Click Clean to remove any adware detected.
    4. Click OK on the prompt to save any work in progress.

  9. Scan your computer using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
    1. Download and install the latest version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from
    2. Click Fix Now when the warning message: “A scan has never been run on your system” appear.
    3. Click Scan Now to start the scan.
    4. Click Update Now when the notification message: “Updates are available” appear.
    5. After the scan is finished, click Apply Actions.
    6. Click Yes when restart is required.

  10. Scan your computer using Hitman PRO:
    1. Download and install the latest version of Hitman PRO from
    2. Once installed, Hitman PRO will automatically scan your computer. Wait for it to finish.
    3. Click Next to remove any detected threats.
    4. Click Activate free license to complete the removal process.

  11. Protect your computer using the Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security:
    1. Download and install the latest version of the Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security. For the instructions, refer to this article: Installing Trend Micro Antivirus+ Security 2015.
    2. Perform a full scan on your computer to keep it clean.

  12. Disable any proxy server in the Internet Options setting:
    1. Press WINDOWS + R on your keyboard.
    2. Type inetcpl.cpl then hit ENTER.
    3. Go to the Connections tab then click LAN settings.
    4. Untick Use a proxy server for your LAN.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Click Apply then hit OK.

  13. Delete rockettab and browsersafeguard from the registry:
    1. Press WINDOWS + R on your keyboard.
    2. Type regedit then hit ENTER.
    3. Press CTRL + F and type: rockettab then hit ENTER.
    4. Delete any rockettab entry found.
    5. Press F3 to repeat the search then delete any rockettab entry found. Do this until all rockettab entry are removed.
    6. Do the same for browsersafeguard.
